Having the ability to hold informal situational prospecting is one of the most important skills for a team-builder to have.

Here are 3 important aspects in Prospecting in any Network Marketing Business

 

Friendly

To be friendly is to be likable. Developing a large passive income requires an army of volunteers. Volunteers are attracted, not bought. They can come and go at will. The better you are at attracting people, the larger your “army”.  What the question really is now: how can we become more likable? Well, a big part of being likable boils down to basic people skills; little things that can make a big difference. Here are a few:

Smile – not an over-the-top plastic smile, but rather just enough of a smile to let the other person know that you’re glad to be alive. Imagine you have some good news that only a few people know about. After all, you do—the good news you have is your opportunity!

Focus on the other person. Everyone is their own favorite subject. Don’t defend against the system—use it. Since people like to talk about themselves, make the other person your topic of choice. The best way to do this is by asking good questions. Here’s a powerful question to ask: “What do you do, professionally? When I prospect, the entire conversation involves me asking questions and the prospect answering. Be gentle, take a genuine interest; it’s not an interrogation. Show appreciation– People crave appreciation. Offer a compliment (a job well done, a nice car, a cool necktie, beautiful or cute shoes or purse). Good manners are a powerful and often overlooked way to show appreciation. “Yes ma’am”, “No sir”, and “Thank you” are simple gestures, but they show respect, something the person may not get everyday.

 

Brief

 

The second important aspect in prospecting is being brief. In other words, don’t use too many words. When you say too much you run the risk of making a serious mistake. You can end up saying enough for the prospect to say “no”, but not enough for him to say “yes”. It took a while for you develop you own knowledge and belief. The prospect hasn't had the same chance. It’s not fair for you to “force” your knowledge in the span of one or two minutes.

Another issue with talking too much is that it violates the first important aspect of being friendly.. If you’re doing the talking, the prospect isn't. The idea is to flow the conversation from greeting, through friendly questions, to an offer. The offer should not be an invitation to join your team. Your offer is simply an invitation to look at (or listen to) a professional prospecting tool (DVD, CD, magazine, sizzle call, etc.). Friendliness is necessary for effective prospecting.

 

Trustworthy

 

The final aspect of prospecting in any Network Marketing business deals with being trustworthy. You can be as nice as you want, but if you don’t come across as believable, the prospect isn't likely to be interested. Would you want to follow someone that you can’t be taken seriously? Probably not.

 

  • 1. Avoid verbal exaggerations – Our words can undermine our credibility. Unless you’re praising the prospect, avoid using strong adjectives. Words like huge, enormous, unbelievable, millions, etc. usually backfire and cause the prospect to question our credibility.
 
  • 2. Be congruent – This means that your words, actions, and appearance should all be in sync. For example, if you’re offering a significant opportunity, but you’re dressed like a bum, your words and appearance may come across as unrelated, out of sync. Here’s another example, if you aren't a regular user of your own product, and you’re offering an opportunity based on that product, your words and your non-verbal communication will be out of sync. In congruence causes subconscious confusion in the mind of the prospect and a confused mind does nothing. Indeed this is one of the most common reasons for prospects to say “no”.

There they are – the 3 important aspects in prospecting in any Network Marketing business. To many reps, situational prospecting seems a bit mysterious. To others, it can be terrifying. The truth is that anyone can master the craft. Make yourself a devoted student of personal development, use books and audios to gain specific knowledge on the subject, and practice, practice, practice. Be patient; give yourself permission to take time. The results are worth it. You will never regret is. Invest in yourself. You deserve it.

Now, to create your customer follow up system you will want to select several tools to reach out and touch your customers periodically. You will need to balance the timing of your follow-up and maintain professionalism. You do not want your prospect to be turned off or irritated because you contact them too often. You do not want to appear desperate to sell something else. You also do not want to leave your customer's remembering you up to chance.

Remember, the purpose of your customer follow-up is to help your customer solve a problem. If you don't follow up periodically, your customer will forget you and move onto your competitor the next time they need a product or service like yours

Let's look at some tools you must have in your customer follow-up system

1. The telephone

In today's online and high-tech world, people forget about the phone. This is still a great way to reach out and touch your customers. It is especially effective after the sale to ask how it is going and to see if they are happy with your product. The phone is a very personal way to interact with your customers.

2. Email with auto responder

An email drip system with an auto responder will let you automate email contact with your customer to continue to feed them information and to keep your name in front of them. This is a low cost way to keep in touch with your list of contacts. With an email drip system, you set up your series of messages and then forget about them.

3. Newsletter

A newsletter is a value-added way to provide information to your customer. Your customer can subscribe to the newsletter giving you permission to continue to contact them with relevant valuable information.

4. Post Card or letter

Guess what? These days, people still love to get something in the mail with their name on it. They especially like to get a personal card or letter. Do you remember the last time you received an unexpected personal card or letter in the mail from someone you know? It really is exciting to tear open the envelope to see what is inside. You can really set yourself apart in the online world by sending a personal greeting card or letter.

Adding your contacts to the system

In addition to adding your contacts to your contact manager, you will also want to do the following to work them through your system. Take a normal file folder, and staple your prospective customer's business card to it. If you don't have a card, just create a label. You can use the folder to write notes, or to store other paperwork from the contact like sales receipts, records, or anything else related to that customer.

The contact's folder gets moved through the filing system in the same order as the sales funnel. If you have already completed a product walk through, you would move them into the follow-up section. They remain in that section, until you actually follow-up.

Once they complete one event, you move them to the next event. When they become a customer, they go straight into the thank you card file. Keep this filing system in your office and make sure you have time scheduled each day to go through it. This will help keep you focused on what needs to be done for each customer each day.

This is an excellent organized way of improving your customer follow-up. Your sales success will improve significantly with implementation of these few tips.

During your sales process there are several times when customer follow-up is critical. See these 3 steps on how to follow up with your customers

 

1. While customers are in the decision stage of the buying process.

Let’s say your customer did not buy at the time you showed them your product. This could be for many reasons - maybe they needed to talk it over with a spouse, or maybe they needed to save up some money. Maybe they went on vacation and forgot about you. There are many reasons why your customer may not buy from you the first time you show them your product. You owe it to that customer to remind them that you are still there ready to help them.

 

2. After your customer has purchased a product from you, it is very important that you follow-up with that customer to see how the product is working out for them.

Maybe you would ultimately want to show them some additional features that they may have overlooked or forgotten about. You need to consider their satisfaction with your product for two reasons. If they are unhappy with the product, you want to make sure you find a way to make it right. Either they should receive a full refund, or another product, or something so that the last experience the customer has with you is a positive one.

If the customer is happy with your product, you need to ask for a referral to other people they know who might like your product. You also want to ask for a testimonial from your happy customers. Testimonials are valuable to add to your marketing materials.

 

3. Finally, if a customer has purchased from you before, and they were happy with the experience, they are likely to purchase from you again if you have additional products or services that match their needs.

It is up to you to continue to follow-up with information and relevant suggestions for products that will help your customer.

Look at this idiot…Frank puked on me…

You will not believe this, I met a guy yesterday who absolutely loved his business.

That wasn't the problem.

Here's where this gentleman went wrong...

 

The first thing that came out of his mouth on our initial handshake was, "Hello, my name is Frank. How would you like to own your own business? I've got this amazing opportunity with this amazing product and the company is in pre-launch. Get in now and you'll be set for life!"

Ok.

 

Honestly...Do you think Frank has a good shot at establishing any type of relationship or any chance at sponsoring distributors using this opening line???

 

Of course not! Its ludicrous to think that this could ever work.

I felt like I just got puked on by Frank and his business opportunity.

Yup, Frank puked on me.

 

And I definitely don't want to do business with Frank now because I don't work with people who puke on me...and neither should you!

 

This is THE #1 WORST POSSIBLE THING you could do if you're trying to build a network marketing business.

 

This repels your ONLY target market, network marketers, because they could care less about your business.

 

This approach doesn't work in person so why would anyone in their right mind believe it could on a website?

Get into the Habit of Going the Extra Mile

There are only two ways to beat the competition; lower your price or increase the quality and quantity of service you provide to your customers.

Customers who buy from you because of a low price are not loyal and will jump ship when your competition offers them a lower price. One of the biggest reasons most salespeople fail to succeed is because they view MLM customer service requests as unpaid, administrative burdens rather than golden opportunities. By going the extra mile, you will stand out from the crowd because most salespeople are unwilling to even go the first mile let alone the extra mile. Consumer surveys underscore the fact that customers don’t mind paying a higher price for a product if they’re satisfied with the service they receive after the sale.

Developing the habit of going the extra mile and rendering service above and beyond your customers’ expectations is a smart business decision that pays big dividends. Going the extra mile enhances MLM customer loyalty, increases sales, and promotes positive word-of-mouth advertising within your marketplace. One happy customer who is given exceptional service can influence more prospects to do business with you than $10,000 worth of traditional advertising.

Farmers understand the value of going the extra mile when they prepare the soil and plant their seeds in the ground. All of this work must be done at the correct time of the year and without compensation of any kind. If the farmer does his job correctly, he can count on Mother Nature to reward his hard work with a hundredfold return. This natural law of increasing returns works exactly the same for salespeople who go the extra mile providing service for their customers as it does for the farmer planting his crop.

Here are some suggestions to help you get started going the extra mile.

1. Be proactive by calling five of your customers everyday to see if they have any service requirements that you can help them with.

3. Show your appreciation by mailing a handwritten thank you note to your new direct-selling customers after the sale.

6. Use your imagination and think out of the box to find new ways to improve the quality and quantity of service you provide to your customers.
